Wild Islay Birding – October & November

Hello wildlife watchers, October & November have been busy out around Islay watching wildlife and birds. We have had great views of Otters, Red Deer bellowing in the forests and hillsides. Unusual sightings we had one day was leaping Sea Trout at Black Rock.

The birds have not disappointed with everything from Fieldfare, Redwing and Merlin about. The geese are back in big including Barnacle, Greenland White fronted and Pink footed Geese. It has been great to find some rarities amongst them including Todd’s Canada Goose and Cackling Goose.

We have also had a Lesser Whitethroat visit a local garden on Islay and give some fantastic views.

Other stuff;
Can I ask other birders and wildlife watchers to park sensibly whilst over here on Islay. Over the last few months I have seen some bad parking on the roads and in the lay-bys about the island.

More other stuff;
Unfortunately I have to put my prices up. Since I started this business 18 months ago fuel has gone up by over 10 pence a litre. So from 1st January 2018 a half day tour will be £40 per person and a full day tour will be £65 per person. So if you are looking to book a tour next year do it now.
